NOMAD / EP
The EP contains 4 tracks written in different periods and premiered at various international festivals. Angelina was born in Kazakhstan and has a strong tie with her land, and in this EP she portrays her own musical vision of the Kazakh people's ancestral world. The 4 tracks have a definite Kazakh ethnic matrix, but the electronic experimentation allowed for a novel approach on Kazakhstan's popular instruments' sounds.
The EP is opened by the title-track "Nomad", a piece composed by Angelina many years ago that she has re-arranged several times. In this version it has been transcribed for the Ethnic Orchestra of the Kazakh Conservatory “Kurmangazy”, and performed live with this prestigious orchestra, with the partecipation of ethnic musicians: Maksat Edeubek (kyl kobyz, nar kobyz), Zholgasbek Iles (harmonic cant, shan kobyz), Nurtas Kairatuly (saz syrnay), Ashirov Madiar (harmonic cant). Angelina herself played piano, theremin and live electronics. The performance took place on the 18th of November, 2014 in Almaty (Kazakhstan) for the 70th anniversary of the Kazakh Conservatory “Kurmangazy”.
The second track “Korkut” is inspired by the ancient Central Asia legend of the shaman Korkut. The track was composed for kyl kobyz, kobyz (both Kazakh ethnic instruments) and live electronics. The solo part was performed by Gulzhan Amanzhol. It was presented on the 9th of November 2009 during the "EMU Festival" in Rome (Italy).
"Hau-Lau" is the third track, composed for voice, percussions and live electronics, and inspired by the writings of the famous XIX Century Kazakh poet Abaj Kunanbaev. This track was performed by Angelina on the 10th of November 2006 at the festival “Musica Verticale” in Rome (Italy).
The EP is rounded off by another performance of "Nomad", here in a version that could be defined "ethno-jazz-experimental electronica". The track was recorded by Angelina (on piano, voice and live electronics) on the 23rd of January 2007 during the "Festival del Sassofono" in Rome (Italy), with the very special contribution of 3 great musicians: Alfredo Santoloci (sax soprano), Antonio Caggiano,Gianluca Ruggeri (percussion).
